A collaboration of Srishti Dances of India (Ann Arbor, MI) and The Spilling Ink Project (Washington, DC), Samudra: Churning Oceans draws together artistic individuals in a harmonious project of creative dance. An intense relationship to classical Indian dance commonly anchors these multi-generational artists in their personal travels to and from beloved India, synchronizing with their lifelong aesthetic explorations-both vital journeys inundated by imaginative, cultural and spiritual energies. The expressive artists immerse themselves in consuming waters, diving deep into their separate and collective thoughts to create new movement perspectives derived from classical South Indian Bharatanatyam and East Indian Odissi forms, supported by fresh literary and colorful visual art ideas.
